aimyoga is the creation of the instructor, Amy, whose vision of teaching others the practice she enjoys so much led her to completing her ashtanga-based hatha teacher training through Herizen Yoga For Women on Vancouver Island in the summer of 2009. Amy is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance and has been found teaching at The Dojo in Stony Plain, at That Yoga Place in Spruce Grove, at the Tri Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove, and from her home basement studio.
Amy obtained her B.Ed from the University of Alberta in 2000, and has spent several years teaching physical education to adolescents. Amy has also been a student herself, taking yoga classes for years enjoying not only the physical rewards but the mental and emotional as well. Her love of teaching others and her fondness for yoga led her to the aimyoga vision. Amy is also a certified Reiki practioner.
In the past year alone, Amy has taught over 300 hours of various yoga classes including prenatal, kids' yoga, hatha, okido, and beginners'.
Though Amy's classes focus mainly on the asanas (physical postures) of yoga, she does incorporate some meditation, pranayama, and chanting into most classes aiding her students in experiencing more of the realm of yoga. Often, yoga is associated only with the physical practice (asanas) and it is much more than that.
Yoga is a process of cleansing and clearing one's body and mind and helping to make one more aware of the moment.
"When I started taking yoga, I did it for the physical practice. When I noticed how stress relieving it was and how calming and nurturing it was for my mind and body, I was indefinitely hooked! I hope my students will feel the same."
